irst time I see a filter do this. No damage seems to be done. I do full synthetic every 8000km unlike the 10000km like than manual says..

This was a Fram ultra synthetic. Back to the regular Fram I go

I had a Fram blow out on me once. Did a little digging and realized how shitty they were. Never used one since.

Better yet, avoid Fram garbage altogether and get a purolator, Bosch or Wix-made filter instead

I’ve been avoiding Fram for years because oil filter studies/tear downs have shown that the Fram stuff is only okay at best, and downright shit at worst

that’s the anti-drainback valve. it shouldn’t prevent it from filtering (being a Fram will prevent it from filtering) it just means if the oil filter sits sideways it can drain back into the pan when the engine is off.

Seriously, though, stop buying Fram oil filters. They’re the most cut-rate, cheapest built pieces of crap on the market.  they generally have the lowest amount of filter media surface area, the end caps of the filter element are just cardboard (and have been found in cut-apart filters to not have been glued properly from time to time) and because of the cardboard end caps the anti-drainback valves often don’t seal.

this is old, but revealing. AFAIK Fram filters haven’t changed. The big problem is that unless you buy one from the brand of the actual manufacturer of the filter, you don’t necessarily know who made it.

STOP using FRAM! I had a FRAM oil filter collapse and cause low-oil pressure on my 1UZ. Didn’t kill it but that twas a scary drive home. A quality WIX or even an OEM filter is like $5

My wife’s BMW is specced for 10k oil changes and lifetime transmission fluid. Only an idiot would think those intervals are a good idea.
